No, it will center itself on the crankshaft. In the axial direction, it's captured by the crank bearing race and the rotor. Almost goof-proof...

My bad - the sprocket is held in place by that little clip/6mm bolt, I don't think it contacts the rotor anywhere.

It does sort of contact the rotor since it's grabbed by the starter clutch that is bolted to the back of the rotor and thereby spins the rotor that turns the crank.

Whoops... I must retract my last few posts. We just did a starter clutch and you have to put the sprocket on BEFORE the rotor. As an assembly, the sprocket will not go over the woodruff key which must be in place before the rotor can go on. In summary, Sprocket first, woodruff key, then rotor. A little silicone grease on the rollers will help keep them in place.
