reassembly of starter clutch 66 dream 305

Whats the secret of getting the starter clutch assembly back on without loosing the springs and rollers? I can get it on until it hits the starter gear and then it stops. I have searched the forum but havent seen any tips.

Lay the dynamo on the bench horizontal and insert the gear with a little clockwise rotation like LM says, then put the assembly on the crankshaft.

Thanks LM, I tapped the key down a little more on the outside end and it popped right on.

Hmm, never thought of doing it that way. I installed the starter sprocket first. I assume in your method the stator is removed at this point and you bolt it on after the rotor is mounted to the crank?

Yes, the stator is off anyway if you have the sprocket in your hand. I've found that it's a lot easier to keep the springs, caps, and rollers in place that way.

No concern about the starter sprocket seating nicely into the crank seal when you install the rotor and sprocket at the same time as basically one unit?

Yes, the stator is off anyway if you have the sprocket in your hand. I've found that it's a lot easier to keep the springs, caps, and rollers in place that way.
