Timing chain replace

I just acquired another CB77 (blue 1966) on Craigslist that I could not do without, with that said the timing chain is noisy. I removed the tensioner and the center rib has chunks out of it, I believe from being too tight. I took the tensioner from my other 66 and installed it and adjusted tension. The chain is very noisy still so I am thinking that a new chain is in order. How difficult a task is it to replace? Anyone have a step by step? Thank you.

I would also be concerned about the other neoprene wheel in the middle of the engine.
Ya can use the old chain to loop in a new one. .........lm

LM is correct about those idler wheels. I have broken two and the result was a series of bent and broken parts in both cases.

If you are not familiar with doing work on these engines such as cam chain replacement and such, I would first start by searching this forum for help, us the "search all terms" button, it will lead to a huge gallery of posts. Also, I'd buy bill silvers book, you can get it by contacting him through his website just google search "Bill Silver" "mr.honda".

How did those wheels brake on you ? I replaced mine with near mint looking ones from a lightly used spare engine, ( no cracks or chips) do you suggest periodically looking them over for wear?

Is the part # for the lower cam chain wheel 14611-250-310? As far as the the tensioner, are there early and late versions?

It's been a while since the post, but between work an other issues I may someday get this done.

That is the guide in the center of the engine.
The tensioner is at the rear of the cylinder and came in 2 sizes.
The engine number will give the correct one needed in the parts book. ................lm
