breather plate shieldbreather plate shieldI'm attempting to re-assemble 305 cc motor out of a 1966 CB77 Superhawk. The engine was all apart and in cardboard boxes when I bought it and I'm not sure how the breather plate shield installs. There's a large arrow on the metallic side of the breather shield that I assume (hate that word) means the metalic side faces up with the arrow pointing toward the front of the engine (toward the exhaust headers), but I would like to confirm that before I start assembling everything. Also, does the breather plate shield "Packing" go on top of the metallic breather plate, or below it on top of the cylinder body? I've looked at the Honda blow-up of the cylinder head but it's not clear re the positions for the breather plate. As a side bar, what function does this plate serve? Thank you!
Re: breather plate shieldThe full gasket is first with the plate next then the open gasket.
The 2 slots do face the exhaust. .........lm

Thank you for the response. I think I know what you mean when you say "full gasket," but to be sure is the "full" gasket the one that is shaped identical to the metallic breather plate? Also, is the breather plate installed with the metallic side UP and the arrow pointed forward toward the exhaust? Thank you!
It is the same as the metal part.
No top or bottom with any of the 3 parts. ..............lm
Breather plateThere is not a "metallic side" to the plate. It is all metal. What is on the "other" side of yours?
His description is of the metal plate with the top/full gasket stuck to it.
One Metal Side with Arrow. He should be able to see the the impression of the top cover into the gasket. Now the answer is "The Small Holes Face the Exhaust ports. Purpose is to allow the engine pressure to vent out the top and not have oil come out. If ya put the small holes toward the carbs ya will have oil spray out the vent tube. ...............lm
