Newbie Muffler QuestionsNewbie Muffler QuestionsHad to pop off a muffler today to get the right-side cover off. I notice two things.
1. Where the header meets the exhaust pipe, here there is a crack. That's probably really common and from vibration. What can be done about it, and should anything be done about it? Also, the header is able to twist where the two are joined, at this spot . Is that normal or does that mean it's breaking? 2. I had to take the muffler off to get the side cover off and replace my clutch cable. To put the muffler back on, I need to pull the crush washer out of the exhaust port and install a new one right? Can someone give me a hand on how to install the muffler onto the engine properly? On other bikes I've fucked stuff up by not following a proper specification or missing a well-known vulnerable spot, etc. I don't want to make any mistakes. I've never done this before. Thanks, Andy Thanks for the reply. I did the simple version of that, hahaha, and have no leaks. I basically just mounted the header loosely into the exhaust port, then loosely attached it to the mount on the right side engine cover, and loosely to the mount beneath the frame. Then I got the header pieces fitted into the right position on the engine and tigthened them down, THEN tightened down the bolts on the mounts. I figured this would position the header into the engine without any leaks and without any stress on the pipe (it had play), then I could tighten down on the supports. You guys think this is safe enough?
To be fair, there's cracking happening where the header meets the muffler, and I will likely have to have it welded at some point. Where do you take that sort of thing?
Re: Newbie Muffler QuestionsThe pipes ya show are the one piece issue and the head pipe doesn't move in and out. ..............lm
