nope. my buddy is a pro and loves to weld aluminum. i gave him a few with very minor cracks and he gave them back to me. tried 5 different rod types and 2 brazes, nothing would take. he suggested an acid test to determine the metal types and he would try again if he had solid info. i wouldnt recommend just handing them off to a shop and wasting time and money.Snakeoil wrote:I would think that a good welder could TIG weld those and with some careful Dremel work and maybe a little bead blasting and polishing, they'd be good as new.
Anybody had luck doing that?

Snapped/Breaking Foot Peg Mounts after only 1,000 milesI went by Charlie's Place in SF yesterday to see what he thought about the broken mounts, whether it's worth it to get new ones, whether it can be ridden long without them, etc. He told me pretty much that they will all break in that spot at some point, no matter what. Weak aluminum. He didn't say anything about then weakening from the bike being dropped and hitting the passenger peg.
He said It would be foolish to buy a pair of NOS ones for $95 a pop. He also suggested I have them welded, but it seems that's not really possible as the above person says. He said I could keep riding like this and it would probably be fine. Man, I dunno. What do you all think? Should I just shell out for the replacements? $200, sheesh.
