Snapped/Breaking Foot Peg Mounts after only 1,000 milesYou will eventually find good ones on ebay, but I would just pay Nick if he has them and get it over with. That $200 will be a distant memory by the end of summer... The other thing did cross my mind, but not knowing you personally, and not wanting to meet you under difficult circumstances, I elected to refrain.
-48 It's so weird though, the ones on mine were visually perfect. Not bent at all and no hairline cracks that I could see at all. The only weight on those pegs has been my 120lb girlfriend, not exactly a lot of stress. Do these mounts always break? Do people pretty much have to stockpile them to replace every 5k miles or something or is it just an unlucky break on my part?
Hahaha, I get the joke. Ya, I'm like 140 and my girlfriend is less, not even close to max capacity for this bike. There's a pair on ebay, seller says the right side one is good, so maybe I could save some dough by buying one on ebay and one from... I guess his name is Nick, at Ohio Cycles.

New ones should last forever unless the bike goes down. Somebody took the time to polish yours a little, which means they were off the bike, maybe straightened, filler added, "restored" etc. You just never know. Unless the bike's been on its side both ways since you owned it, it was nothing you did!!! Those cracks are hard to see unless you know just where to look, but they're always in the same place.
You might get lucky and get a good one there on ebay, and for the right price it would be worth it. Don't be put off by Nick at Ohio Cycle, he does business his way, but he's fair, ships right away, and stands behind his stuff. Cool, that makes me feel a bit better about it. After spending a good amount of money on the bike I was beginning to worry that these bikes are just prone to breaking apart, that it would be a money pit of replacing obscure brackets and mounts every few thousand miles. That would be a serious drag.
Anyways, guess the mounts on mine had a rough life prior to being placed on my bike. Anyone ever thought of having a set machined from steel? It's weird they're made of weak aluminum. At $100 a pop it could even be worth it. It's strange that nobody has suggested welding them. I have several cracked ones and I am going to have a go at welding them.
It would also be pretty simple to get some replicas cast, too. I have had castings made for work and they can be incredibly cheap if you get the quantities right, I wonder how much interest there would be? G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72
