Newer left crankcase cover vs. old style... CA77 Dream...

Post by rzgkane » Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:30 pm

I am in the process of replacing the clutch in my 1965 CA77 and installing a replacement crankcase cover at the same time. I had a spare left cover refinished and I'm having its oil filter cover polished as a cosmetic upgrade. Having taken it apart tonight in anticipation of the polished cover arriving tomorrow, I just now realized that the oil filter area of each cover is different, with the older unit having a smaller access hole compared to that of the newer cover. Aside from the older oil filter cover using two o-rings of the same dimension and the newer one using one large and one small o-ring, is there any other difference that would prevent me from using the new one in place of the old one? The filters from the two motors (I have a 1963 motor in the bike and a later parts motor in the garage) look the same.

You can use the newer style cover, butr will need the oil filter cover that matches.

Excellent. That's what I was hoping to hear. HONDA still sells the larger o-ring for the later filter cover so I'm good there.
