viberationviberationHi, new to this forum and another one of those old guys that just retreived his 1967 305 scrambler from a 42 year sleep (stored in a basement). Soaked the clyinders with solvent, cleaned the carbs and tank, polished up wire connections and points. She fired right up and runs great. Couple problems; clutch is stuck and reading form other post I guess I will take that apart. Carbs both want to overflow, I may have gotten the needles mixed up during the carb cleaning. But my big concern is viberation of the motor. When I was a teenager running the bike, it developed a crack in the underside of the gas tank (where it fits over the frame) and the chain guard cracked at the rear bolt attachment. Now I just noticed that the rear fender has a huge crack at the area of the forward mounting bolt. When running the engine on the stand it just seems to have alot of viberation not at idle but at hight speeds. Did the 305's have these issues or is there something in particular I should be looking at? Thanks this is a great forum. Woody
VibrationsWoody, these things were always a bit "buzzy". I do a regular nut and bolt inspection on mine, especially the motor mount bolts...............D
vibration/cracksWoodrow,
You have just described the common cracks of the scramblers I've seen in the past. When you get to riding her again you will soon find the bees in the butt syndrome. I added extra foam in the seat to dampen the vibes and I've heard of some folks using an additional 1 in gel cell on the seat also. Enjoy the memories on this Ole girl; nothing like it. Rusty BTW List you location, someone else may be near by to ride or wrench with. viberationThanks D and Rusty, kinda what I thought, maybe try brazing up the cracks. For sure gonna put some new foam in that seat. Woody
