Starter troubles

Post by 68Cb77 » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:41 pm

So I got the generator rotor off. All 3 bolts are broken that hold the starter gizmo to the rotor. 2 springs seem to be gone, there's 1 left, but it looks no good. 2 of the dogs (round parts) seem ok, one is not very round anymore..... Soooooooo........parts? anyone? I hear they are no longer available, maybe Ohio cycle?

I guess in short I need 3 bolts, 3 springs, and maybe a dog (round part) Thanks, John.

You'll need caps for the springs too - check the parts diagram. I would replace the knock pin also. Check with Honda first - all that stuff might still be available. If not Western Hills and Ohio Cycle are good options. Email me at swmrescue@cox.net if you don't have the parts manual, I'll send you a pdf (CB or CA)?

Pic 2 shows ya need that big part also as the part is missing the steel cover which covers the area of the rollers and holds them in place. .......................lm

Thank you boys.....LM, I just realized today that I think that steel plate was stuck to the side of the other piece. I didn't even realize it was on there until I looked at the parts diagrams today, Thanks
48lesco...yeah, I figure I'll get all the little pieces as well. Ohio Cycle won't ship to Canada, weird, I guess it's a hassle. Got lots of stuff from Terry over the past few at Western Hills, he's great. and actually stopped in for a visit once on my way to Nashville. What a place!! he took me through the storage area upstairs...WOW..."here's 4 front fenders for a Scrambler",......and so on, and so on. Unreal! Thanks for the offer on the manual, it's a CB, I bought the manuals when I started on this one..
clhiller...good to meet you. Another Canuck.....getting damn cold today!

K, wow, I'm a bit of a dummy. All the parts are still available from Honda! I never checked because it seems there's not many parts left from Honda for these bikes. Maybe a bunch of other bikes share the same starter clutch?

No dummies here - only those who have done it before!
