Stock sportster mufflers on a CB

Well I know that this idea makes many of us cringe. But I am in need of some mufflers. And we all know how many pairs of stock sportster mufflers are out there. They are pretty cheap too. I was looking at them and am curious if they might be worth adapting to a CB. I realize they will need some modification and some rejetting etc. But I don't even have any mufflers so I have to start somewhere.

I was thinking about the JCWhitney Dunstalls (which I have on my CA and am happy with). But the sportster mufflers are just so cheap! I almost feel like I should do it just to see.

Any thoughts? Even if you want to express your disgust with this idea, that's ok too!

They are one of the best looking stock mufflers out there in my opinion, but they are really heavy (or at least they used to be), so you would need to securely mount them.

And you are right..... they are cheap enough.

Would be interesting to see them mounted

I am always noticing the small ones in Tractor Supply, cheep too, like 22 bucks.

EMGO makes replacement mufflers for Brit bikes and a Dunstall copy is one of their models. They also offer the old Bates shorties. You can also find a shorter version of the Dunstall.

I have a pair of Dunstalls on one of my Triumphs and I'm very happy with the quality and the sound. Price is pretty good, too.

I think they have a line for Japanese bikes, too. Google them. They have on-line catalogs.

Don't forget JC Whitney. I think they still have a decent selection of universal fit mufflers.

ALRIGHT JETHRO...! GO MAN AND GIVE US SOME PICS! Now I'm curious as to how the Sporty's pipe would look. Do you think you'll have to add to the header/down pipe to get the best muffler position for mounting etc? My mind says the stock Honda muffler may be quite a bit longer than the HD's or similar length muffler. Hope it works out for ya.

Really, it's just an idea at this point. I'm still trying to figure out if they'll be too heavy, and if they can utilize original mounting configuration/apparatus. If it ends up requiring some extravagant procedures or any major alterations then I'll abandon the idea. Also, I think the inlet ID of the mufflers is 1 and 7/8 inches. So I'd have to get some reducers as well. The main reason I'm intrigued is that you can get a set for around $30 shipped. Well see.
