The halogen draws more Tim; 45-45 vs 25-35 watts.
I figured that the LED tailight bulb draws less wattage than an incandescent bulb by a factor of about 10.
So with an LED tailight I have some extra power in the electrical system that would handle the increased wattage of the halogen headlight.
Not exactly scientific but it seems to be working after about 300 miles and I DO love the light that halogen bulb puts out!

Thinking of switching to an LED taillight as well, as it seems to make a lot of sense (next step of course would be Rick's Motorsports CB77 Stator!).

Question for those of you who have done it -- red bulb or white bulb for the taillight? Which is brighter? Instinctively I'd think the white one, but since it's projecting through the red taillight lens, should it be the red one? And in terms of specifically that Super Bright 1157-R19W6 bulb, how does it look when viewed from the side?

Vince,

It should be a white bulb to illuminate the license plate with white light, unless you want a pink license plate.

Not exactly right Wilf.
The 1157 bulb I bought from http://www.superbrightleds.com has 19 rear facing red LEDs and 6 white LEDs pointing down at the license plate.
Since LEDs are more directional than incandescent bulbs, the red from the rear facing LEDS doesn't show on the plate anymore than an incandescent bulb.
I compared the LED and incandescent bulbs on my CL and my taillight with an LED installed is definitely brighter.
The white LEDs really light up the plate too which has to help night time visibility.
All I can say is I'll never own another street bike without an LED taillight.

So should I be ordering the red one???

I made my decision between red or white based on a picture in Superbright's website showing a taillight with a red LED in it and a taillight with a white LED in it side by side and the red LED seemed to be "redder" so I went with the red.... Volley back atcha buddy.
