Frozen cam lock nutFrozen cam lock nutJust started restoration on a 1962 cb77. Motor was in a flood 40 years ago. Managed to get rockers removed after some effort, but cannot get the cam lock nut to break loose. Followed all advice on the forum, but to no avail. Any thoughts?
+1 on the PB Blaster - make sure it's the penetrant, not the lubricant; and yes clockwise from the points cam end will loosen it. Wedge a piece of wood between the sprocket and the casting to hold it still, then I would shock it with a big screwdriver and dead-blow hammer on the nut. Don't use any heat because the advance weights have some rubber stoppers on them. You will eventually win...
Re: Frozen cam lock nutR is correct about the early ones being a normal thread.
If yours (1962) has the BIG WEIGHTS at the Center the thread will be normal. I have had 4 of the usual looking ones that had normal threads so ya may want to try counter clockwise. . ............lm
