Crank bearing

Post by djohns » Sun Jan 21, 2007 9:17 pm

Ordered a new crank left side ball bearing for my CA77 ser #102241 a while back. Honda part # 91001-259-010. When I went to fit it today it was too small. The OD of the old bearing is 77mm with a 30mm ID and 19mm wide. The new bearing is only 75mm OD with the other dim's being the same. Online I can't find a 77mm OD bearing in NSK sites. The bearing seat in the case has not been bored at least by the looks of it. Does anyone know whats going on here!

I just looked in my parts book and the one you ordered is only good for machines with #'s 110001 to 110300.I think you should of used the one ending in 002.Book shows it going from 110301 and up.Not hard to miss this since it is on the next page of the parts book.Check it out and see if this is the problem.

What are the numbers stamped in the side of the outer case?
Do they match the numbers on the old one?
The parts book shows 6306 for all of those side crank bearings. ..........lm

Ok, something is definitely amiss. The original part number from Honda which you have ordered, 91001-259-010 is listed as a std bearing number 6306, whose dimensions should be 30x72x19. I don't understand how you're getting 75 or 77mm. Are there any numbers stamped on the side of these bearings? They should be on the sides of the outer race. Also, where did you order this bearing from and was it in original Honda packageing?

Crank bearing revisited

Post by djohns » Tue Jan 23, 2007 11:46 am

The old bearing definitely measures 77mm OD, both with a Vernier and C frame michs. The numbers on the face of the outer rece are B30-38, F (corrosion pits present might be P), and NSK. New bearing from Western Hills Honda in orginal Honda box. Box has part # 91001-259-010 with C722901A below. New bearing marks are B30-35A, G, and NSK and it measures 75mm OD, Both bearings have split line marks on outer race face also. My engine was apart once in its life as it had S3 pistons in it, but the case # and frame # are within the accepted range of each other. The right side bearing was the needle type with the case having the stepped knock pin. Help as always greatly appreciated.

I would call Western Hills back and see if they have another of that same part # and have them open box and see if maybe someone put the wrong bearing in the box at one time.Just a thought since this kinda stuff happens all the time no matter what you may be working on.
