Rotor Removal Question

Post by FiremanBob » Sat Jan 06, 2007 3:09 pm

I may have screwed up here. I have removed the stator, but the rotor is a mystery. I have not yet removed the 14mm crankshaft bolt - is this the problem? Of course, now it turns easily with everything removed from the left side of the engine. What is the best way to immobilize the crank so I can remove that bolt?

Thanks.

I usually just put the wrench on the bolt and give the wrench a quick tap with a hammer and the bolt should pop loose. Then I use a rear axle shaft since it the same thread as the rotor and put a punch in the axle shaft hole and hit the punch with a hammer in the tightening direction and that usually will pop the rotor loose of the crank, but not always.Hope this helps.

that sounds about right. It is that long since I have had to do it. Also use the axle as a puller but I can't remember which one.
Leon.

Thanks for the help. I got the bolt off by putting a rubber strap wrench on the rotor.

Now I've tried putting the rear axle into the hole, but it's too big. Also, is the puller a left-hand thread? The thread on my axle is right-hand. How exactly can I get the rotor off?

Thanks, Joe. It's a 1964 CB77. Oddly, the rotor has stamped on it "CB72".
