Another Siezed MotorI have a seized CA77e motor in which I thought I have tried everything. The head is removed, no water or corrosion in the crankcase. The pistons are almost top dead center and they have had wd-40 sitting on them for a few days. I have tried heat, steering wheel puller and a piece of wood with a healthy 2 lb. sledge. I am hesitant to crank the puller down any tighter or strike the pistons with the wood too hard. Any ideas or sugestions, your experience would be greatly appreciated.
HELP fellow membersI soaked the cylinder and piston area with PB Blaster for over a day, heated the fins until they couldnt be touched, cranked down my steering wheel puller to the point I was afraid I would shatter the piston and nothing. I also beat the pistons with a wooden drift until the wood started to decompose. I need more help, I have tried everything short of splitting the case, any suggestions from you experts would be greatly appreciated. I dont want to damage anything, but I am starting to get frustrated!
Re: HELP fellow membersAs this is a 360 engine and both pistons are probably stuck you may want to get another steering wheel puller and crank down on both pistons at the same time. You will probably need to split the cases later anyway. ..........lm
Being that they are near top dead center makes it much more difficult as the crank will present much more resistance than if it were rotated with the pins at a lower position. If you determin the direction of bias and simultaniously apply a rotating force on the crank with a breaker bar it might break free as you will be pulling down on the pistons at the same time as you are pushing from above.
If this fails,(or if the crank itself is stuck!) It might be more effective to pull the cylinder up, instead of pushing the pistons down. I would use a hole saw to cut out a couple of circles of soft pine to place on top of the pistons, and place a piece of steel across them to spread the force of the puller. You'll also need to drill another piece of steel with holes for the 2 end studs on the cylinder, and holes for the steering wheel puller at the center, including a pass through for the puller's center bolt to press on the steel bar below. This piece needs to be substantial enough that it won't start bending and pull the 2 end studs towards each other. (2 pullers would be more effective) I know this is getting a little elaborate, but if they are that stuck, there's not alot else you can do without destroying the pistons or cylinders.
