Oil light went on during a ride...then off...then on...Help!
Oil light went on during a ride...then off...then on...Help!I have a 1967 Honda Dream. About 20 minutes into the ride today, the red *oil* light went on. Then it went off...then on....then off....
Oil level is fine. Any idea what might be causing this? I looked online and someone mentioned replacing the *oil pressure sender*. I am happy to do that if it will help but I have no idea where that is. Help! Any suggestions are much appreciated. Lady Dream Rider The Dreams don't have an oil light. The only red light on them is for the high beam indicator on the speedo (on the later Dreams). The other light on the headlight bucket is the neutral indicator. I'm sure your oil is just fine though:) If you'd like to make sure you have proper oil circulation, you can take off one or both of the exhaust valve covers and remove both spark plugs. Then turn the engine over with the starter and before too long (10 to 30 seconds?) you will see oil being pumped into the head when looking into the valve cover holes. Good to do this before initial start-up after overhaul. Back to the light issue though you may have to play around with the high beam circuit to see what's going on with that. Have fun riding!

hmmmmmwell, the red light that is on/off/on is right about the 50 mile per hour mark of the speedo. So I went and checked it. The red light goes on (bike is cold) when I turn the key (not even turning over the ignition). I did notice the headlight and (gasp!) tail-lights are both out. Now I am not suspecting oil but some sort of a wiring malfunction?
Thanks so much for your speedy response!! PS, I love my bike! :)

Thanks so much for your speedy response!! PS, I love my bike! :) Check to see if your taillight is dead. Should be able to tell just by looking at it. Also play with the headlight switch (by left grip). Switch forward is high beam. Middle position is off and aft position is low beam. That light should only be on for high beam operation. Just to make it known many people on this forum are more willing to help and respond if you update your profile to include your location (city and state). Also, lets see some pics of your bike:)
One more thing, if you look in the electrical section of this forum there is a sticky of the dream ignition switch configuration. Being familiar with that may spare you some confusion. Jethro
thanks for your help!well, the tail=light is dead...the bulb was exploded (not sure when that happened). The hibeam/low beam switch doesnt change the front bulb (still dead), however when that switch is between high and low, the red light goes off.
Not sure what all this means...i may just get a new bulb for the front and obviously replace the rear and see what happens. Do you have any online sources for old dream parts (such as the front light bulb!). I am gonna try to attach a pic taken a few weeks ago at the corkscrew at laguna seca...hopefully it comes thru! thanks for your continued help! sk Nice looking Dream.
I think you can find a color wiring diagram for the dream on this forum somewhere (use the search feature). Headlights are super expensive for the dreams if you can find them. Most people end up removing the old bulb from the housing and use some hi temp rtv to glue a new one in place. Has to be a certain bulb though. I think a 25W-30W bulb. Again, use of the search feature will get you some valuable info. Maybe someone else can chime in and point you in the right direction too. Jethro
