ca 77 brake shoes...

Post by rrtccp » Wed Jun 15, 2011 8:13 pm

Hello fellow dreamers... my dream is almost done and i'm just putting the finishing touches on it.. my question is in regards to the brakes shoes... my bike was off the road for about 20 years.. although the shoes look like they have lots of meat left on them i'm thinking i should just replace them anyway since it is apart anyway... now my question is ... i read somewhere that the shoes are the same for front and rear yet the parts book lists two separate part numbers... so are they the same or do i need different shoes for front and rear???

Look at CMSNL site, they have pics of both in their parts fiche, and they show to be very different.

If it were me, I would just clean them up and re-install unless they are contaminated with grease or oil etc.

I just lightly sand the drums with 400 or so grit and the shoes with 800 or 1000 and spray them good with brake clean.
