Carb Float Adjustment Clarificationalmost discovered.
i measured it all ways. the float level fits best at #3 at the gasket level notch. if i set it to #1 upper body gasket mount the floats drag the top. if i set it to #2 rim the 7.5mm B.Silvers, distance to the jet fails. i vote #3 below. at the body cut out. ( i think that is what it for ) CL77 99% done on mine.

Ya wrong with this one feller. .......lm
thanks for the 1 liner.
all we have are the books the books are wrong, ( cept ,set float to 22.5mm) end. we try to discover this arcane carb setting and ,it is not easy. i have 3 choices one jams the float one makes 7.5mm wrong and the other makes both happy. so what is right.? CL77 99% done on mine.

Hi,
I didn't follow the books, I followed measurements thus air / fuel ratio data, and at my CB72 I choose for nr. 1 minus 2,0 mm, so 24,5 mm. In this case the bike is not leaning out, and not to rich, when standard jetting is used. I'm at sea level, in a sea climate, remember, I'm talking about CB72, and won't necessary being good for a CB77 ! I measure this distance when the carb is horizontal (on it's side) and TOUCHES the pin of the float needle. Jensen assembly of Japanese motorcycles requires great peace of mind (Pirsig)
When all's said & done, the 'right' method results in the correct relationship between the surface-height of the fuel in the bowl, the jet holder/emulsion tube and the carb's choke/throat/venturi (whatever you wish to call it).
Ed knows more about these Hondas than most of us here, put together; his "line of sight" method, as delineated in posts 4 & 8 here, works for him and others. I use my Honda metal float height gauge; I have PW26 carbs. She runs sweet. bless you for that so clear photo STEVE, and works out same is my photo's (tried all 3 ways)
that gauge is it 22.5mm? CL77 26MM throats.? i can't imagine working backwards put in correct jets for sealevel (then plug in 5 gas analyzer or the analog equiv, LOL) then working backwards to correct float level. that must be a long row to hoe. lucky its 22.5mm and only 3 ways to do it. dang luckly Steve you are the hall of fame.. i owe you a 6pack!! all comments , stock jets, etc. CL77 99% done on mine.
