seat repair ideas?seat repair ideas?Ok guys..so ive searched and cant seem to decide on what route to go on my seat for my 65 cl77..i will attach a pic..its not great..but gives an idea of condition;) all in all the seats not bad! I took it off and noticed it has a few puncture marks..and very front where it meets the tank (kinda hidden) is ripped away...anyways..my question is..whats out there that i could use to maybe "fill" the holes? Something black or clear maybe? I KNOW its not the best option..BUT i cant see tearing the cover off and risking wrecking it further/not being able to replace it?;) i see on internet a place that will fully recondition it for like 600 bux..but its a lil outta my range for now;)
seats also REALLY heavy..is that normal? Are they heavy seats? Or is it waterlogged and dried? Maybe..anyways..thanks ahead of time guys![ seatThanks AGAIN Davo!;) im learnin! And good to know bout the weight..i wasnt sure the PO hadnt left her in the rain or sumthin:( or id have to/should replace that red foam....so now i will track down an old upholstery shop i was just worried they wouldnt appreciate/know the rarity of the seat and id risk making it worse!;) its not in bad shape..just like to get it repaired so once i start riding her i dont make it worse! Thanks! And i will letya know what happens!
PlastidipPlasit Dip makes a "liquid insulation" for electrical wiring that seems like it would work. I haven't, but has anybody else ever tried it? The spray can says it is a "rubber formula", but probably urethane. Vinyl repair might work, but in my experience it seems to get hard before too long.
That seat looks way too good not to at least attempt a repair. I've never used this kit from Eastwood ( http://www.eastwood.com/vinyl-and-dashb ... ystem.html ), but am gonna give it a try on a couple of CB and CL seats that have the same issues as yours. Original cover seats are getting super hard to come by and are expensive. I sold an NOS late CL seat three years ago on Ebay for $850 and a used one without any rips or tears at Mid Ohio to a dealer for $200+ just last year. IMO the AM covers that I see, as nice as they are, don't have the feel and looks of the originals. On the other hand, if your successful at repairing your seat and are gonna ride the bike a bunch, it probably would pay in the long run to get a junk seat and recover just to preserve the original.

Howdy.
Fast Fred has a guy near us who'll do the seat. If you're meeting us for lunch tomorrow, we'll get you the info. Otherwise, I'll PM it to you. Either Fred or I will be in touch. Dana
