top end reassembly) how do i tell if sprocket is centered ?hey all, so, i just reassembled the top end of my cb77, i'm wondering how i can tell if the advance sprocket is centered with the crank shaft sprocket and will match up once the cam chain in installed.. ?
i'm guessing i'll put everything together for a dry test and see, then adjust accordingly but if their is a technique i would love to just get it right off the bat. thanx '65 s90

Re: top end reassembly) how do i tell if sprocket is centereThe end caps center the cam. ...........lm
Re: me tooAs I said "The end caps center the cam."
HONDA didn't have time to custom fit each cam assy so that raised area bottoms to the outside bearing which centers the cams. I've read the book and all that's fine but I've built apx. 50 heads and that's how I find/do them. If ya don't have the cams bottomed to the sprocket and all bearings are not bottomed to the cams "even a thousand or two" and ya screw the end caps in ya will bind the cam assy and ya will feel the drag as ya turn the assy. ..................lm quote="CL77NOW"]have all Bill Silvers books , parts lists. op guide, and others but .... . CAM SHAFT END PLAY: page 46 says "just short of touching" with end caps mounted, sans gasket. ok i can slide cams either way with both spline locks loose. my guess get cams 1 to 5 thou from caps,? my guess, is to tap both cams against caps and then lock both splines clamps down then the gaskets thickness , becomes the end play.? anybody have a more sure way. or a spec, gap, so i can cut shim stock and set it that way? thanks for any help [/quote]
will get my 305 guy to help me. this is not clear to any mechs in our shop, some with 45year exper.

FYI partsFYI: (im sure some is redundant...)
here are some good points ive learned doing mine for 3years many of the parts stated to be not available is not true. yes, many are.but. look here before you let fleabay scalpers charge $10 for a 60 cent screw. (that last resort , huh) http://www.bikebandit.com/ you can see the sizes of the screw and a photo. so no need to ask where is something. just look. these are the same photos seen in Silvers book. ( TIPS in the book are invaluable great) non better. http://www.honda305.com/cb77_900/cb77-907.htm ohiocycle.com (but you must pretend it's 1950 and ordering form Sears and Roebuck. (snail mail only) http://www.ohiocycle.com/ (but has some gems) also contact fastfredxxxxx (at) aol.com (this email is bogus ,do a search with prefix) "I also have many new oem motor parts K/S pawls, gaskets, transmission bushings ect. and lots of new and used CL77 body parts handlebars, levers, cable adjuster springs and more' just bought some parts, buy using email links here. 5/2011.. 5x16mm JIS screws. (rare) do google searches for online Honda parts suppliers. (all) some parts are still used today. like many of the o-rings fit new cars. (got one oil filter cover oring from new car) the bigger is impossible to find. search using honda pn Do not force the JIS screws into ISO holes. make sure the screw you buy does not have a A on the end. or it wont fit. last tip. no anywhere. the side covers on the cam ends, have this really crappy honda gasket (NOS) this gasket if it fails on the inner lip will allow the oil pressure feed to slip in to the bearing bypassing the rockers and the cam lobes are now history (a $300 error) either make your own, or find a better supplier of gaskets here and use hi last is my best oring supplier. http://www.oringsusa.com/
