Dear All,
I have just pulled the crank apart to renew the big end bearings. Sadly for me the eye of the conrod and the big end journal both show some pitting. Is it possible to refurbish these parts or if not whats the best option for buying new? Its a CB77 of 1967 vintage and Im located in Hong Kong
Thanks
Baz
Crank and conrod problems
Hi,
Welcome to the forum, as stated you'll find answers on questions here. How bad is the pitting ? and how did you notice that there's pitting ?, any pictures ? A little bit of pitting isn't bad, as long everything is within specifications, but most of the times pitting and wear go hand in hand. Replacing the conrods alone could be an option, but only if the bearing surface on the crank is in good shape. A few suggestions : 1. Try to buy a new crank, and replace the bad one, but that's obvious. 2. Try to buy a good used crank, and replace your crank. 3. Buy a complete running CB engine and use the crank, or the complete engine. Cranks and engines come by from time to time. 4. Restore your crank, take it apart and replace the parts or restore (weld it up and grind iot to specs etc.) There is always a reason for damage, make sure you find it before another crank is destroyed.
