Early CA7/77 breather spring

Post by conbs » Wed Apr 27, 2011 10:38 am

On the early CA's with the tower at the back of the top case for the breather, there is a spring that apparently holds the breather body in place inside that tower. Spring part #15725-259-000. CSML showed one in their inventory, but it is "no longer available".

I need one and would also appreciate some help with how it fits in the case. I have studied the parts diagram and I'll be danged if I can tell how the heck the spring fits into the case.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Bill

I have a 1960 C72 parts motor. I'll take a look for you tomorrow.

Bill

Managed to find the spring and how it fits in the case. Looks like the spring should be easy to copy. It appears to be 0.84mm thick spring steel and fits into a slot in the lower case.

I am on my way to Chicago tomorrow. happy to lend you this one to copy but I'd rather not part with it as I have visions of getting this motor back together some day.

Breather Spring

Post by conbs » Thu Apr 28, 2011 10:13 am

Graham, you are the best. Thanks so much for taking the time to get these pictures. It finally makes sense how the spring holds the breather body in place. And, if I can't find one, I could make one.

In the parts diagram, the little slot that the spring sits in is hidden behind two case studs and virtually impossible to see.

This was a great help and I truly appreciate it.

So....Anyone got a spring they will part with?

You're very welcome. When I first picked up this motor last year, I saw that spring but it didn't click what it was for. Your question prompted me to look and I have learned something too!

As one of my American friends says "every day is a school day"

Let me know if you don't have any luck finding one. I'm sure we could conjure something up.

So, the early Hawk/Superhawk also used the same spring to support the breather body.
