BIkes and parts: sell or part out?

Post by Midge » Wed Apr 27, 2011 2:27 pm

I have (3) CA77 Dreams and quite a few parts. Two were running about 2-1/2 years ago. Never got the other together. I bought new nicel and other parts including a nice 2-tone solo seat and had great plans. HAD is the operative word here. I was depending on my husband to restore these and he.s never had time. Work etc. SO at 70 and after a couple surgeries Ive decided to let them go. I HATE to part them out as I have feelings (I am a awoman after all) for these guys. I was going to have a black, red and white one. One had the beginning of a profesional black paint job ($900) and I have extra frames, engine, wheels, forks, etc..manuals..all kinds of stuff. I want an opinion if I should try and part them out or sell them as a package..I prefer not to sell them one at a time. However I also want them to get into hands that will utilize it all. SO thats my dilema. I will take pics if it ever quites raining here. They've been stored inside in our barn. I'll watch for your replies and thank you ahead of time.

HI Midge,

It sounds like the bikes are in good shape despite the motors that do not start. As long as they turn over with the kick start, they're considered in good shape. I wouldn't bother parting them out if they are all together as it's a toss up whether or not you'll make more. Plus parting involves lots of wrenching. It's really a last resort for bikes that are rusted up or the engine is frozen.

I would sell each bike individually and include any parts you have to make them complete if they are short. Hang on to the parts that are duplicates or spares and sell them separately. Offer the buyers of the bikes to purchase the extras if they want since I'm guessing they were gathered for a certain reason other than a spare part. If the bike sell and you still have spares left over, put the remainder on ebay or here.

Good luck with the whole ordeal.

Bikes and parts

Taking them apart, listing on e-bay or wherever, shipping and dealing with whatever issues come up in the process is no picnic. You will have a lot of time invested in that route, especially with 3 bikes.

If you update your profile with your location there may be some forum members in your vicinity and willing to help.

What if you kept the black one and got it running? Just a thought. If you go that route, you are sure to get a lot of help on this forum with any questions you may have.

I am in Michigan about half way between Ann Arbor and Lansing. The bikes have been sitting for a couple years now. They are all currently black. The one that had a paint job started came from Texas. I didnt have it done. Also said forks professionally done. He just never proceeded with it. The other two I bought in Michigan. I have some pic and vid of my husband and bro in law riding one around the yard..I'll try ot find it. Story is I am 70 this year and have debilitating arthritis, 2 surgeries. Gained a lot of weight. BUT I still think I could ride it altho I am leaning towards a scooter with $$ from these bikes. I am still a BIKER CHICK LOL> I would consider a trade for a scooter. Depends on how this plays out. We would also like a pop up camper. SO in this age of financial devastation I love bartering. Mainly I want these to go to a place they will be used for whatever purpose. LOTS of parts here but truly could end up with running bikes. I htink I put pics on here years ago..dont know if they would still be available tho.
