Wow, it's been....I'm embarrassed at how long it's been! Shortly after my last post I got mixed up in the strange but enticing world of Zundapp (picked up 2 Bellas, now I'm focused on looking for a Super Sabre), and that really sucked all my time and energy. And work is kicking my ass.

But, excuses, excuses. I decided that I wanted to ride more than I wanted the satisfaction of having done it all myself, so I took it to a reputable local mechanic - a guy who built all of my friend's race bikes. I think I need to institute a six-month rule. If I haven't gotten to (whatever task or project) six months later, it goes to someone else who can get the job done.

The verdict came down last night - and it wasn't "total basket case, give up", for which I was happy.

Remember that part about it having been jumped from a car? Well, the stator survived, but apparently the regulator/rectifier needs to be replaced. The oil seal behind the points is blown, and he strongly recommends an electronic ignition. All in all, it could have been worse, right? He thinks that it should be reliable after that, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Any commentary or recommendations for parts sourcing or whatever (I can get stuff from Parts Unlimited for cost) would be appreciated. My first thought was to search the classifieds archives because I bet I can find the answers I'm looking for there.

cheers
Susan

You can get a substitute rectifier from Radio Shack for about $4.00 or so, or there are some pre-wired versions here:

There are also some correct looking modern versions available from vendors listed here, but I don't remember which ones.

The seals are available from several vendors, as well as ebay.

OK, I picked up the rectifier from Oregon Parts, and the electronic ignition from Bore Tech.

Everything has supposedly shipped. Keep 'em crossed that it's all good.
