Do I need to find a replacement upper case?

I always wondered what that little mount was for. I have a CB77 block with one and one without one.

BTW, I have two spare engine cases if you should want one

Can someone measure the height of that thing and the height of the hole.
Thanks

It's 25.5mm tall, 19mm to center of the tapped hole, and tapers to about 14mm diameter through the tapped hole.

Impurities make welding cast aluminum a little unpredictable, but a MUCH better option than epoxy putty and JB weld.
If you can machine a nice flat surface at the top of your broken boss, you could drill an tap a hole in both the case and a new boss- made from a chunck of aluminum, and use a long set screw as a sort of blind 'stud'.
I sent you a PM, I live fairly nearby and probably have a spare crankcase.

Interesting...my 'early model ('62, I believe) has the same piece missing...I always wondered what that was for! Glad to know I can live without it!
