Right side poping
Right side popingHey all,
I cannot figure out why the right side keeps popping. I had a little bit of a backfire which I attributed to the air mixture and idle being set wrong. Then I went for a ride and I couldn't get in to third gear without a sort of gurgling on the right side. First gear was fine and most of second until I got into the high revs. So, I took the carb off and set the float again, tightened (but not overtightened) the carb back on, made sure there were no air leaks around the intake boots, and also tightened down the right exhaust a bit. After that I could ride in 3rd gear but it's still popping a bit when coming off the throttle and coasting in gear. The right side is definitely running hotter because I checked and compared the right side spark plug to the left. Any ideas?
Could it be the condenser?Been getting fouled plugs and such in mine. I noticed the slightest bit of carbon on the plugs is arresting spark. Cleaned plugs replace and it works for a short time. Could a condenser cause this? I find this info on Condensers.
The history of the capacitor discharge ignition system can be traced back to the 1890s when it is believed that Nikola Tesla was the first to propose such an ignition system. In U.S. patent #609250 first filed February 17, 1897, Tesla writes 'Any suitable moving portion of the apparatus is caused to mechanically control the charging of a condenser and its discharge through a circuit in inductive relation to a secondary circuit leading to the terminals between which the discharge is to occur, so that at the desired intervals the condenser may be discharged though its circuit and induce in the other circuit a current of high potential which produces the desired discharge.' Hmmm. Valves adjusted? Compression tested? It is possible that old gas has etched the airways in the carb, and it needs to be replaced. I would remove the carb again, thoroughly clean and blow out all orfices, incluing the holes in the filter side bell, and see if that helps. Go back to the 42 pilot. Have you trimmed the ends of the plug wires back? About 1/4 inch off of all 4 ends will give you fresh wire, and try new plugs. Davo davomoto

If the popping is the usual it can be adjusted out with the air screw in the proper setting with the slide.
May be out to many turns.135 and 42 jets may be of help. ........lm
