Can a CA 77 cylinder be swapped out for a CB 77 cylinderCan a CA 77 cylinder be swapped out for a CB 77 cylinderI'm wondering if a CB 77 cylinder can be replaced with a CA 77 cylinder?
Brian Yes but... There are three variations on that cylinder block ending in part numbers -000, -010, and -020. -000 has a different oil gallery setup and the base gasket has an elongated hole. -020 has a skinnier cam chain tensioner. Just make sure you use the right one for your bike. CA, CB, and CL77's all use the same blocks. Half a dozen on ebay at any given time.
Here's what my issue has become. I have a CB 77 the motor was stuck, i pulled it all apart and brought it to a well known motorcycle engine guy in my area. The pistons and rings both need to be replaced and it needs to be bored 1 over. The work was going to be pretty expensive and then on top of the labor i would have to buy new pistons and rings 1 size over.
I took a chance and bought a good CA 77 cylinder including pistons and rings and i'm hoping i can swap that in place of the CB stuff. I guess i will have to do a little measuring and hope for a little luck as well. If it doesn't work then it will be a fairly inexpensive lesson learned. Brian
