I've got the chrome plating blues
I've got the chrome plating bluesI got some parts back from a "renowned" chrome plater today and I am less than pleased. I was charged $241 for the 4 brake arms, 2 brake rods, 2 lock nuts and front stabilizer bar. The front brake arm cable pivot won't even budge- the plating is so thick it is frozen in place! The owner said he could fix the stuff except the small brake arms because where the wire is touching there will be no plate. Why then did he not hang it differently? A friend of mine has his stuff plated in TX and his arms come out perfect. Take a look and tell me if you would be happy. After my parts are fixed and the issue is resolved, for good or for bad, I will let you know who the plater is.
The flats on the nuts were fine but the faces are frosty.

Joe,
The owner personally sent me an estimate before plating. He's done vintage parts before and it's his profession/business and his responsibility to let the refinishers know what is required, such as shorter bath times for thinner copper/nickel in parts that cannot be too thick. Per their brochure, and I quote, "When you send your parts to us for plating we guarantee a custom plating job that's done first class." The name of the plater in TX is Prestige Metal Plating, San Antonio. HT
