trouble starting my superhawk! need advice

Post by tavarama » Thu Mar 03, 2011 3:53 pm

it was riding fine then just stalled and would not fire up. it starts with the choke all the way out then dies.

any ideas what could be keeping my engine from firing up?

Blocked vent in the fuel tank? Remove the cap and see if it improves.

Blocked fuel line? Remove pipe to carb and see if fuel is flowing?

Slipped timing?

What have you checked so far?

good luck

Have you cleaned the carbs?

If not, you should probably do it and set the float height and mixture and idle screws.

It doesn't take much to clog up one of those little passages.

okay so. i started my bike with my throttle in and revved it up high for about 20 seconds. then put it in 1st. and revved it some more (all on the centerstand) then pulled the clutch in and it was idling once again???? so i killed my engine and put it in neutral and started it and it was idling again?!!!! like nothing ever happened. is it possible that a neew tank of gas could make my engine act funny? this is my first tank of gas i've put in aside from the previous owner . but it had been sitting for 20 years . he cleaned the carbs and got everything running. but does it just have to cycle through you think?
