Hello all.
I'm trying to remove the fork seals on my 67 CB77 and I'm runing into some dificulty. I've already had to drill out the bolts holding the damping rods down but that is not the problem. Once the damping rods were free I figured I would be abble to slap the fork slider against the seals and get them out. worked on one of the seals but the other is not letting go. Oh yea, I did remove the cir-clips. Next step is applying heat but I certainly don't want to melt the metal with a torch.
250*F in the oven perhaps?
Any suggestions that have worked would be great before I try something that will hurt the fork.
Thanks, Chris.
Stuck fork seal suggestions?
Torch worked fine.Well I did get a PM recomending a heat gun which wouuld have worked like a charm for sure but I decided to go with a propane torch.
It's a chilli morning so I held the torch back about 10"-12" and heated the Aluminum up till the condensation on the chrome went away. Three slaps later and everything came out. Not sure If I had to remove the damping rod bolts after all but I'm glad I did anyways as I like to inspect everything. The original damping rod bolts were crap and stripped out almost imediately when I tried to turn them out with and allen wrench. I've used finesse to get crapy fasteners loose lots of times but these things were junk. New hardened bolts and copper washers are going back in.
