1965 CL77 Right Carb Body needed

Post by husabob » Sun Feb 06, 2011 7:28 pm

Engine # CL77-1024412 I am in need of a good right side carb body. I have two right side carbs; one has stripped out threads where the fuel line fitting mounts. On the other, the pin that locates the slide in the body is worn smooth. Any suggestions to repair either carb would be greatly appreciated. I am also in need of two good carb slides. The chrome is partially worn away on both of mine. Thanks, Bob B (husabob at yahoo dot com)

PS. I am prepping my CL77 to ride in the Midnight Run on Feb 19. It is a 150 mile Timed Road Run that starts and ends in Yonkers, NY, with a 2 hour layover in Carmel, NY. First bike leaves at 12:01am, then one bike a minute. I have been doing this event since 1975, and rode it in 2009 on my 1973 Honda CL175, finishing 1st Place in Solo Expert. I come down from NH just for the event. Dress warm, bring a good watch and a route sheet holder, and join the fun. http://www.ramapomc.org/ for info. See ya there, Bob B

Bob,

Is this the flat black bike you rode at the Giro last spring?

I think you can use carbs from any year CL77. I know a guy in CNY that has several 305s in his junk yard and at least one is a CL77. Not sure if the Dreams used the same slide and needle. You already have the jets in your carb. The name of his yard is Bike Chop Ind. He has been filling his barns and yard with old jap bikes for a long time. I'm sure he'll have a pair of carbs for you. Give him a call at 315-956-0841. His prices are fair. If you wanted to take a ride out, I'm sure he'd let you strip the carbs off yourself so you could inspect and find a good pair.

That midnight run sounds interesting. Roads are too crummy for me to run my bike. But with all that flat black paint on yours, I'd say it's well protected from the elements. Have a great time and a safe ride.

regards,
Rob
the guy with the red S90 that talked to you about sidecars at the giro last spring.

CL77 Right Carb Body

Post by husabob » Mon Feb 07, 2011 11:09 am

Rob,
I do recall talking to you about sidecars at the spring 'Giro. I rode my K100rt/EML rig to work today. I don't restore my bikes so I can do events like the Midnight Run without fear of damage. In August, I hope to take my CL77 to Ormstown, Quebec for the Vintage Off Road Festival and compete in the Hare Scrambles and Grass Track events. I wonder if they'll make me take my sissy bar off! Last year, I did the Observed Trials on my Honda TLR200 and the XC and MX on my '83 CR480(For Sale). Mick Andrews will be there this year.
I did locate and buy a serviceable used carb body on Ebay, but I will give Bike Chop a call to look for slides. If the price is right, I'll buy the carbs complete, just to have them on the shelf. Thanks for the lead. Where in NY is he located?
Regards,
Bob B

He's just east of Syracuse on Rt. 31 along the south shore of Oneida Lake. I think he's in the town of Britdgeport, but it could be Lakeport. They are a few miles apart.

Going to the spring Giro?

Rob

Spring 'Giro

Post by husabob » Tue Feb 08, 2011 3:13 pm

Rob,
The spring Moto Giro is being staged once again from Jiminy Peak Resort in Hancock, MA. I will be there, and will send in my entry as soon as they start accepting them, to insure I get a spot. I am on the fence about what I'm gonna ride. My CL77 with trials tires is almost too easy to ride, and it's crazy fun on the dirt road sections. My Vespa 150 Super makes my face hurt from smiling, and my Suzuki TC120 has yet to stay running long enough to consider it reliable. Anyone in the Northeast looking for an excuse to ride their bike for two days with like minded souls over some of the nicest secondary roads in New England must attend. Rob, Are you gonna take your S90 again? Info can be found at: www.motogiro-usa.com .

I ordered slides and O-rings from Bikebandit.com. They were in stock!! I will still give Bike Chop a call with the aim of acquiring a set of spares. Bob B

I called the guy I got my bike from and he did not have the carbs from the spare engine he gave me. He said there was a basket case '65 on CL for Syracuse a few days ago for $500 or BO. I need to take a look, but a '65 is not much help, part-wise for me.

I'm riding my new '67 CL77. No more having to get the oars out going up hills. S90 engine is tired and was going to be a rebuild project this winter, but now may make it a summer project at the lake.

regards,
Rob
