Candy Orange CL77

Post by david lucas » Sat Feb 05, 2011 3:05 pm

Tom, thanks for the reply. My seat that was on the bike did not have anything silver on it except the silver trim around the bottom . Did the candy painted bikes have a silver piping around the top of the seat? I interpreted the silver tinsel as the piping. Also, is there a way or area to go to to look up someone's contact info ? Would love to contact Doug.

David,

Yes, the chrome fender candy CL77s had the silver welt around the top of the seat. Many people erroneously call it gold, because the aged vinyl is no longer clear, the UV rays have aged it to an amber color. But, sure enough if you look at the cord inside it is indeed silver.
I don't have Doug Swick's contact info. He is in Florida last I knew. Troyce Walls I'm sure has his contact info. I e-mailed Troyce to see if he had it. I'm hoping the e-mail address for Troyce is still valid.

David,

I heard back from Troyce. He said he sent Doug a note and if I didn't hear back from Doug to let him know. If I hear anything I will get back with you.

David,

I heard back from Doug Swick.

"Tom , Troyce forwarded your email to me.The candy orange on my bike is from the small cans of factory honda paint I found several years ago.Unfortunately I don't have any code or formula for it. Doug"

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find something.

Candy Orange CL77

I think I just got lucky. After visits to several paint retailers and having the tank color analyzed and not getting a paint code that I thought was close to the original color. The local NAPA dealer who carries
Dupont said that his Dupont rep was coming in and if I could leave my tank he would get the rep to see what he could do. Whalaa, he came back with whats looks like an exact color match. Dupont Sinful Cinnamon . Going to meet a painter this afternoon. I will keep ya posted.

David,

That's great news. Let us know how it turns out. If I can find my pic of my candy CL77 I'll post it. If you're going for an exact resto your left sidecover had the silver and black exhaust system decal put on there by Honda. Many people removed theirs.

My candy blue 67 still had the exhaust sticker on it. We removed it and scanned the paint underneath for the color match.
