Headlamp Shell; Wiring Harness (B); Light SwitchI am currently restoring a 1964 (I think) CB72. I have two headlamps. One (off the donor machine), has just one lamp in the shell which can easily be identified as the neutral indicator. The other has two. Since I bought this purely as the shell, I have no idea what these are although I guess one will still be the neutral lamp. So, what might be the other one?
Separately, I have acquired a number of wiring looms in various states of decay (both original and after-market). I wanted a decent job and have pretty much settled on a NOS loom but this has a few additional wires that I don't recognise, and the wiring diagrams that I have, seem only to refer to the basic loom. the additional wires are a light blue and orange one. Both running fore and aft of the loom (to the head and tail lamps). Further, there are two other wires leading roughly to the battery area that are black and grey (or gray). I am assuming that these could be winkers (direction indicators), and can be ignored for now, but I'd like confirmation. Finally, I have acquired a number of headlamp switches. They all differ slightly but All but one are two position switches with four wires - pink; yellow; black (white banded); and green. That's all understood - I know what they're doing. BUT, I have a NOS switch with a three position switch (!) and four wires leading from it (all the aforementioned green, black, yellow, pink), are male and an additional brown wire with a female terminal. I have no idea why there would be three positions on the switch nor what the function of the brown wire would be. This may of course relate to 'lights on riding' but I am unsure. The loom is marked as 1965. HELP. Sorry, if these appear naive questions, but electric's leave me cold and a poor colour perception doesn't help when fixing up looms ;o) Tony I wish I could help you with all your questions, but I can't. But I may be able to help you with the blue and orange wires. Those are the winker wires as far as I have been told. Black is usually positive on older machines (as weird as it seems). Grey I'm not sure about.
Brown should be coming from the HL location on the headlight switch and leads back to green (power source OUT of the hdlt switch). I don't know why this is needed on some switches, as all the ones I have are only four wires, without the Brown. As far as the three positions, I am unsure, but there are aftermarket switches out there, even from back in the day. I know this wasn't a huge help, but Maybe it helped some...

It's helpful in the sense that it pretty much confirms my suspicions and at least I can relax about the orange and light blue wires. I may feel obliged to fit indicators later and will utilise these wires anyway. Tony Tony, as mentioned the light blue and orange wires are for the turn signals. The grey and black wires go to the turn signal realy. The second light in the headlight bucket has been added by some PO, as Honda only issued them with one light, nuetral. The 3 position switches are found on Scramblers, and the wiring harness has the corresponding brown wire. One of the two position switches would be correct for your CB. Also, edit your location in to your profile, and you will find mebers more willing to respond to your post. You may even find a memeber in you area!
