Spokes From Superior Cycle

Post by rpr851r » Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:34 pm

I have been searching for wheel parts and came across a spoke kit offred by Superior Cycle on ebay. Have any of you used their CL77 spoke kit? It's cheap at $50 for both wheels and looks to be a swaged set that comes with nipples and washers. The item number for their current listing is 180580323141.

Thanks,
Rich

Rich, I have not seen this particular set. I have received a set of A/M spokes with a CB77 I purchased, and they were smaller diameter than the origional spokes. I'd measure mine with a caliper, and e-mail seller and ask him to measure his to see if they are the same OD. Let us know, 'cause that's a really good price!

I called Superior and sent them an e-mail asking them to measure the diameter of the spokes but didn't get a reply. I see that they have a set up for auction now and people are bidding. If someone from the forum is bidding and gets them please let us know how they are.

I've got a set of the CL77 spokes from Superior off Ebay back in December for $29.95 including shipping. They are single butted and measure the same dia as the stock spokes that I just pulled out of a late model CL77. .123/.124 on the threaded end and .155/.156 on the head end. Butted length and overall lengtht appear to be same as stock. Didn't open up the nipples and washers so I can't really comment there. The only bad thing is ----- they're pretty freckeled up rust wise. No large patches of rust and not really pitted, just a little rough to the touch and freckled. They're what you would expect from 30+ year old NOS AM zinc plated spokes. They don't appear to have been wet or anything and are packaged well, just rode the shelf a long time. I'd throw them in with my next batch of zinc for freshening up, but I've already got 4 sets of old ones stripped for the batch and from past experience, it is one more PIA to sort these things when they come back.

Anyway, they're still a good deal at $30 and would do nicely after a little hand work for a rider or for replacing one here and there.
