Early versus Late model rear passenger grab rail on CL77

The rear grab rail on my '67 CL77 was sanded and painted by the PO, probably because it was a bit rusty. I have found a NOS rear grab rail but it is for a pre-'67 model, which means it will not accomodate the rubber fender mounts.

I would think that if I opened up the holes on the rear fender brackets to accomodate the rubber inserts, this brace would work fine.

So my question is, other than the aforementioned fender mount feature, is there any other differences between the old and new style that would prevent me from using the old style on my '67 CL77?
