CA77 Cam Lift Specification?
Boy... this cam thing is really turning into a mystery. The engine specifications in Bill's 250-305EngineBook09.pdf also shows the Intake Lift as 0.222 and the Exhaust as 0.178. That's 3 resources that say my Exhaust cam lift should be 0.178 not the .223 I'm reading. Assuming I'm reading things correctly, where the heck did I come up with a odd cam? The LH cam locking nut had beating marks on it like someone didn't know it was a LH nut so I would say that someone had been in the head before, but even so.....??
-Jenson- Did you have a chance to measure your NOS cam yet? I just rechecked my cams and all 4 lobes do measure 1.247 +- 0.002 at the widest diameter ("Cam (Bearing Part) Height"?). tnx George

Well it appears that my cam is Ok and the specifications in Bill Silvers "1960-67 Honda 250-305cc Dream Restoration Guide" is not correct:
"Cam lift INTAKE 5.69 mm (.222) EXHAUST 4.56 mm (.178”)" All 4 cam lobes have the same Lift (5.69mm 0.222") which also was seen when I measured all 4 lobes what I take is call Cam Bearing Height (as if you were measuring the cam diameter at the widest point) at 31.46mm 1.246" I would still like confirmation of this, so if anyone has a known CA77 cam available that they could measure It would really be great if they could post it. Re: Still UnclearYup it is, but still no further info.... yet. George Are we talking valve lift here or cam lift? Cam lift is the difference between the base circle and overall height or the lift measured at the cam.
Cams are usually measured that way but they are usually described in terms of Valve lift and rockers are usually more than 1:1 ratio. In this case we're talking cam lift and on about thirty pairs of cams we measured, most stock OEM cams were 5.50mm inlet and 4.4mm exhaust. But I do have one BRAND new (looking) cam with the same lift on the intake and exhaust. Further examination revealed that the exhaust lobe is basically an intake lobe. Normally they are a different shape and on this one they are the same. What I was never able to determine was if that was a manufacturing error or a change in design for some reason. My assumption has always been that it was an error.
