Brake Light Switch

Post by Sascha » Fri Dec 10, 2010 10:05 am

Hey Guys,

So I came to a funny realization last night as it relates to the brake light...
So the brake 'running light' is actually when the brake switch is pulled down and the lever activates the 'braking" light when the switch pin moves farther upwards. Is this correct? I realize I have it backwards.

The running light and brake light are 2 separate filaments in the same bulb.
The running light stays on all the time the light system is energized
The brake light only comes on when the switch is pulled down by the brake pedal.

Sasha, most hardware stores have a couple drawers of assorted springs. Measure te distance you need to span, and go have a look at what they offer.

Sascha, I bought that exact spring from Ohio Cycle. If it is the spring you need then it is part#35357-253-000 ($10) or 35357-271-000 ($6.50) depending on your frame vin. If it is the stop switch rod then it is part# 35355-259-000 ($5). I may have the dollar figures with the wrong numbers but they are the correct amounts anyway. Call Nick. Regards, Jeff H.

Guys,

The issue is that whenever I use my foot on the lever, it moves the pin upwards, not downwards... !?

Not sure how that could happen.
Look at the Main Stand, Step bar diagram in the parts book (pg 68) to see how it should be aligned.

The spring is connected to the rear brake spindle, and the stop switch arm. The switch is connected to the stop switch arm with the stop switch rod.
The rear brake spindle should be aligned at 12:00 position.
