Speedo refurbishSpeedo refurbishHas anyone found a place to refurbish speedos? I have three but even best needs work. I have found many classic car places but not much on speedos.
Sent mine to "Foreign Speedo" in San Diego. Heard good things and will post when it's finished.
Buying one on Ebay may be cheaper, but if you already have an old one that's seen better days, what do you want with another one? Contact: Foreign Speedo 2246 1/2 University Ave. San Diego, CA 92104 619-298-5278 SpeedosDecided to tinker a bit. Took the speedo off my 65 C77 (with high beam indicator) that rattled with rust when shaken, and disected it. The two shafts with integral gears were rusted beyond repair, but I learned all the parts. Took the ones off my 64 C77 and 63 C72 apart and cleaned them up and a little silicon grease on gears. Hardest part was removing the chrome closure mating the glass and the housing, without causing any visual damage. Cleaned the numbers with alcohol and Q-tip. Surprisingly in very good shape for 40+ years. When I tried to clean the dial face the luminesence of the face went away. I think I will scan the dial face into the computer and have a mask cut where the numbers and bars are. Respray the face white and then mask over and airbrush black numbers and bars. Will try it on the scrap face first. My airplane graphics guy can make small enough letters to duplicate the MFG'r and calibration numbers at the bottom. Cheaper than a new repro I saw for $100 on a site (looked nice though). Plus its the same speedo the bike brought to the dance!
Re: SpeedosI have seen speedo face graphic kits before. I thought I saw them on the Reproduction Decals site http://www.reproductiondecals.com but I just went there and did not see any Honda graphics. I sent them an email to find out if they dropped the Honda line. I have used their decal kits before with great success. I was hoping to use the speedo face decal myself some day, so hopefully they still have them. I will post here after I receive their email. If they still have the kit, it would save you a ton of work. Oilleak

Just heard back from Reproduction Decals. It seems that Honda has taken a page out of old Uncle Harley's book and forced them to remove all of the Honda items from their web site.
