Testing finished product with ohmmeter. Use Switch Matrix Diagram and Schematic Diagram. Test from back of switch as shown or from ends of wire leads.

Seating wire body back into switch. Do not apply excessive pressure. Contacts easily slip out of place. Correct contact alignment is required for proper assembly.

Correct triangular contact position!<br />Both 12 and 4 o'clock triangles with one contact facing out-8 o'clock triangle with two contacts facing out. Insulators on spring under triangle.

Springs ride on ball bearings.<br />Inspect, clean, lubricate all parts... especially triangular contacts and inside electrical surface of wire connections.

Really good tutorial; and good of you to share! Does the matrix diagram hold up to scrutiny in The Real World? I didn't have either switch to hand -- the diagram was based on logical assumption -- so I'm relying on adventurers, like your good self, to inform me if there are any mistakes.

The Switch Matrix Diagram IS a necessary tool, even in the real world of CA72/77 electrical trouble shooting.

After reviewing the Matrix, along with the assistance of your trusty ohmmeter, one can easily determine whether a CA72/77 combination/ignition switch is operating properly.

I highly recommend all CA72/77 owners keep a copy of the Matrix along with a copy of the wiring schematic diagram readily available. Just for future reference of course!

Ignition Switch

On my CA77 there is a tan colored wire that connects to the ignition switch and it doesn't show up any where on the wiring diagram. Any ideas on what it does?

Tan or brown? Brown is Meter Lamp (speedo).
