To everyone who orders parts online...

Post by MBellRacing » Sun Sep 26, 2010 1:31 am

...Do not buy from Apex Cycle. I have been tricked into buying their cheap valves now twice. They have easy one-click shopping and are very inexpensive. They have cost me two motors. Everyone on here that has seen my previous post about the FIRST motor that blew up can attest to this fact. My motor just blew up again, precisely at the same moment (about 30 minutes in). This time, since I've been staying up till 4am every night, I was able to ride it with all its fancy new parts. I have put all my money into this bike (poorly paid race car driver FTL) and have lost countless hours of sleep on this project and it has been ruined, once again, by Apex Cycle. There was previously a question if it was the valves that broke or the piston that was too tall. Both machinists that took a look at it said it was the valve, but I didn't listen.

I've spoken with two classic Honda experts today and they both said that Apex Cycle looks great but suckers people in to cheap parts with no outside help. I wrote Apex Cycle tonight to try and have them take their product off their site and explained my situation with this email:

It was a bit rough around the edges in language and spelling (gotta love iPhone emails!), but I had just lost my SECOND motor due to their valves. Despite my slight decrease in politeness, I have never before gotten a response from a business like this (excuse the language-- it's not mine anyway):

This is totally unacceptable to me. My father is the CEO of a large company and he and I together run a corporation. I would NEVER imagine responding to any customer email like that, regardless of the topic. I would like to make sure NOBODY buys from this guy. As promised, I'd like to run him and his business to the ground. The Honda world doesn't need this kind of business. Please spread the word best you can (other sites would be fantastic).

Hi,

On this site the apex cycle shop is known as supplier of after market parts.
Honda, on the other side, warns everyone in their manuals and documentation for using after market parts, not only for selling their own parts, but to protect people from buying low quality parts.

Some parts like tail lights, front lights, winkers, and other non important parts in the precise constructed engine are no problem. The lack of quality is only an optical issue (and making China a more and more powerful nation).

Part for the engine, however, should be careful machined, and made from high quality steel, and that's why it's expensive.

I'm aware of the fact that people in general think that the quality of engine parts from Honda are low because it's old, it's not.

The CB72 delivers almost 100 HP / litre, you bet you have to use high quality parts, especially valve's, guides, pistons, rings, etc.

Hi,

I feel for you too, but it also everyone's responsibility to make choices, and the responsibility's that are part of that. It's good that you pointed out the low quality of valves that are delivered by Apex cycle, and that you shared the answer from them, which is ridiculous and shows the total lack of responsibility of the writer of the answer to you.

Apex was booted out as a sponsor of this forum a few years ago for this type of foul mouthed customer service.

I quit buying off of him after he sent me 2 left side header pipes for my Dream and refused to correct the situation. I asked to please send me the correct pipes and i would even pay for shipping. His response was f**k off a**hole!

If you look up posts about Apex you will find several similar incidents.

"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after thew sweetness of low price has been forgotten"

I have never ordered from Apex, I have seen way too many negative comments on this site. The parts he sells generally don't fit, are of poor quality, and customer service is absolute shite!
