That speedo is no later than a '62 (no high beam indicator). What is your engine number and could you please post a photo of the engine showing the cam chain tensioner?

Thanks- Tom

So the tensioner is a weird thing. I have 2 blocks for the bike, one with the new style, one with the old. Here's the VIN (correct or not) and the engine code (assuming it's the original)...

Tom, the instrument cluster issue isn't definitive in much the same way that the year tag on the harness can be inaccurate. The Type-Ic instrument ('63-issue) was the first with hi-beam indicator; but my first CB77 was a genuine '64 -- CB77-40XXXX -- and was fitted with a Type-Ib with no hi-beam ind. That was UK, mind you.

Steve,

I know what you mean. Both of my '62s have no high beam indicator. I had 2 '63s and 1 '64 and they all had the high beam indicator (here in the states).
Both of my '62s have the lock bolt for the camchain tensioner on the left side.
The VIN numbers indicate 1963.

Interesting, Tom. Do either have the crankcase breather on the back of the upper casing? And how do they compare with the '61-'62 model year changes that I listed a couple of posts back?

The Forum is the only place we now have to share, collate and maintain knowledge. I'm putting together a model-year database, but only for '65-'67; we're able to pinpoint model-years >'64, but '65> Honda just issued a numerically-ascending range of 7-digit frame numbers with no apparent breaks.

Thanks for keeping up the responses.
