Wiring up ignition switch question.
Wiring up ignition switch question.I am having a time finding a key for my NB ignition switch.
I have a "modern" replacement 4 wire switch from a CB500. If you had to use this switch, how would you wire your CA77 into it? The switch has a red (battery) lead, black (starter) lead, brown (taillight ?) lead and a brown/white stripe (headlight ?) lead and is a 3 click switch - off, dot, ignition Is it possible to wire this into the CA harness, and what wires on the CA would attach to which of the CB500 switch? If it ain't possible, s'cool, but I really want to get this part of the puzzle sorted. Thanks, CF Would like to know that answer also....before I could figure it out, would have to see the internal contact connection chart for the various key positions, something I haven't seen before, and not shown on any of the wiring diagrams.
I'm thinking you would have to have a separate light switch with a 4 wire switch, since the lighting position of the original also activates another coil in the magneto. Maybe E3Steve has some info? 66 dream, 78 cb750k, 02fz1, 09 wing
The combination switch on the C/CA Dreams controls not only the ignition & 'park' lighting, but also the headlight (with a separate, autonomous pair of contacts to 'lift' the charge rate [pink & yellow]) and, on some markets' models, an 'emergency' ignition position.
You need to obtain a proper combo switch for either your model or a C/CA92, 95 or 160; those models' combo switches should also have the same contacts/positions, I think. Some models have a 6-position switch -- including OFF --, some have a 5-position: Incidentally, Joe's description refers to the switch positions starting from fully ACW and where his positions 1 & 4 allow the key to be removed. The difference between the 5-pos & 6-pos switches -- I'm surmising here -- is that there is no ''twilight" position for the 5-pos type. I remember reading, someplace, that some markets' models were produced with an 'emergency start' position before the 'start/run' position whereby the ignition coils were fed directly from the alternator/dynamo/magneto to facilitate kickstarting with the battery totally flat. No experience, so take this info with a pinch of salt until someone more knowledgeable can confirm.

A good locksmith will be able to make a key from the lock itself; as long as a blank is available, of course, but that shouldn't be difficult.
There's a little, old Majorcan guy here in Palma and he's never let me down. Even to the point of taking him two locks with the same characteristic slots for the key and he's made them 'keyed-alike' so that only one key is required for both locks. Place an ad, in the h305 classifieds, for your key number; one member here puts various keys on eBay, with several different series' and individual numbers. G'luck!
