Neutral light switch problems

Post by mustanger » Mon Jul 03, 2006 3:14 pm

Hi Dreamers:

This site is sooooo great:

I've run out of serious problems, but I'm left with one more minor one. On both of my Honda Dreams, I have a neutral light that's tempermenta;, That is when I'm in neutral sometimes it's on and sometimes it's off depending on its mood I guess. I'd really like to know when I'm in neutral. I guess I'm spoiled now that JoeWier1 got my bikes running, I want them perfect.

Anyway is this a common problem? It must be since I have it on both of my bikes, so what is it? Is it that the 40 year old neutral switch needs replacing?

That little switch is poorly constructed. I have successfully taken them apart and rebuilt them with a new wire, but it's a fiddly repair and you may prefer to buy an NOS unit from Ohio Cycle for $25. Confirm that it works before reinstalling the right crankcase cover. --Randall

Do check the spot the wire is soldered to. Many of the wires are broken at the spot. You can remove the plastic part and inspect/clean the contact point. ............lm

Did you make sure your bulb is grounded well enough.Sometimes those sockets get crusty from sitting or your other connections could be corroded.I notice on some of the engines I stripped down they can get pretty soaked in oil.Maybe you could blast them with carb cleaner to get them to work.Just my 2 cents.Good luck
