Scott didn't mention it but the engine has the 10 mm sparkplugs. I also took a peak at it at the swapmeet.
Scott, can you confirm that ?

The frame and engine numbers are far apart, but that doesn't mean it's a later engine. I have seen more big differences between frame and engine numbers in the early bikes.

Jensen, I have confirmed what Toby said about the spark plugs, they are indeed 10mm. NGK plug in one hole is C-HS7.

I'm not so sure what would be considered far apart or close with the 1962 bikes as the frame had 5 digits and the engine 6. .........lm

Very interesting difference.
The wide one I saw was wider than the usual issue at the gas cap area. ...............lm

I am having trouble downloading the picture of the kick arm. It says the file is too big. I have seen a couple of the wide tanks. I think Pat Jones 61 CB72 also has this wide tank.Look at the pictures of the kick on this bike that started this thread. It also appears to be the thin early one.

Hi,

Indeed Ed, it's difficult to see if the numbers are far apart or not when the numbers differing a digit, but I always take the last three or four digits, and compare them (the three or four least significant bits).

I didn't know that, good info Buck, never noticed the difference in with. I noticed that there where (at least) two types of gas tanks. The early one is shaped different then the later ones. Found that out when putting late panels on an early gas tank. They fit, but it doesn't "feel" right.

I don't know about the rear fork clevis, but I know that the part what holds the rear brake torque arm differs, the early '61 rear forks are having a wider mount for the brake torque arm (the early brake torque arm is made of aluminum and is thicker),
