Early Cylinder base gasketEarly Cylinder base gasketWhat is the difference in the early base gaskets for CB77 ? My 62 is a low serial number and the parts book lists #12191-259-000 for up to CB77E-210900. After that you use#12191-259-010. The gasket set I am using looks correct with the oiling hole at the front left of the cylinder but I want to be sure before I use it. Thanks,Terry Mitchell
If your referring to the oblong oiling hole the later models do not have this.I ordered a gasket set for my CA77 off Ebay and I did not realize there was an old style and ended up with a gasket set that only a few gaskets fit on my newer style engine.I did not have anyhting to compare it to.Live and learn.
The early cylinders had 8 holes and then the later (most are this way) have 9 holes. If ya use the 8 hole gasket on a 9 hole top case you will have OIL come out!. ..........lm

My 62 has the eight stud holes and the round oiling hole on the front left of case. Beware the aftermarket head gaskets. Put one on my bike and the pistons hit the sealing ring. CB77's are 60mm bore and new gasket measured 59.5mm. Old head gasket measured 60.5mm I.D.. I will use OEM head gaskets from now on. My early 62 is almost finished. Will post Pics soon. The gasket set I used was bought at a swap meet. It was an old Self Cycle & marine set. They are marked (SCM) in an oval. Assembled engine and fired it off,Whoa! cut it off quick!! Checked valves and everything else, nothing shows up. Out with the engine & off with the head and after looking at everything I noticed the head gasket move when pistons came to top. Measured opening in new gasket and old one and found the problem,60mm bore with a 59.5mm gasket. Live &learn. Always use OEM whenever you can. Buck
