plug against head - NO SPARK, plug close to head - SPARKplug against head - NO SPARK, plug close to head - SPARKbike was running 3 days ago and have not made any electrical changes since last running. now it won't start and i know it's getting fuel. i pulled spark plugs and when i press them up against the head, i get nothing. but when i put plug really close (but not touching) to head, i get weak spark jumping from plug to head. grounding issue? what could it be?
Re: plug against head - NO SPARK, plug close to head - SPARKBad plug, try a new one. Gunner
Are you getting a weak spark between the base of the plug and the motor (head)? If you are not getting a spark to jump from the gap, and your getting a spark from the base of the plug, the plug is shorted and bad. I had this problem on another bike not long ago.
If your sure it's not the plug, look at the points to make sure they didn't slip out of adjustment. With the ignition on, you should be able to open and close (or short) the points and make the plug spark. If this doesn't do it, you may need to take the tank off and start tracing wires. Since it worked not long ago, look for something simple like a loose wire connection or broken wire. Good luck! Gunner
