Brake Pedal Return SpringBrake Pedal Return SpringGuys, I am putting my 1965 CL77 back together and I cannot find where the brake pedal return spring goes. This is the little one that attaches to the post on the rear brake spindle (part # 46514-273-010). The spring is in this picture resting on the spindle and leaning against the frame - where does it attach at the top?
Thanks, Gordon Brake springGordon, I don't think that spring goes there. My 66 CL-77 doesn't have one there. It relies on the spring on the rear backing plate( pic. no. 1). mine seams to work just fine. However my clymer manual shows a small brake pedal return spring but not where it attaches? Hope this helps................D
Re: Brake springIn pic 2 ya see where the rear brake cable end is installed and at that location is a small hole where a 1/16 in dia. wire is installed.
The wire needs to be apx. 3/4 in long with a 1/4 inch hook on one end. The hook installed to the inside of the frame then the outside end is bent down to hole wire in place. That is one attachment and the other is on the inside of the pivot end of the brake lever where the cable installs. ................lm
Thanks everyone!!
I looked and looked - nowhere was I finding a place to hang my spring. What had me scared was that I'd perhaps not welded something on the frame that should have been there. This bike had been butchered where the brake switch mount used to be. My fear made worse by the fact this is powdercoat and not easily repaired if more welding was needed. This is the before photo and there was nothing to go by. Again, your inputs are priceless. Gordon
