CA77 Speedometer rebuild recommendation

Post by Captain Fantastic » Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:13 pm

Hi all,

I am wanting to finish up with my speedometer rebuild, but i've hit a bit of a snag and am looking for input.

i took the beastie apart and derusted and de-funkified as much as I could, sanded the face, put on the new decal, painted the inside of the housing, etc...

The white "gasket" that surrounds the speedometer glass has disintegrated into a chalky, fragile mess.

Does anyone have a suggestion for something I could use to replace that "gasket"? Or, conversely, does anyone have a source for a replacement? I really don't want to just glob a bunch of silicone around it, really...

Thanks,

CF

Try Foreign Speedo Inc. in San Diego.I sent my speedo to them and they made one I believe.

If you can't find a replacement, try making one out of an old inner tube.

Thats what rebuilders use, either white marine silicone or sikeflex, just make sure you mask the glass and remove the masking right away to get a really clean line

CF, where did you get a new speedo decal for a CA77?
Thanks

i did a search on this site and found a post recommending these guys:

http://www.reproductiondecals.com

I sent them an email, and for something on the order of $16 - plus or minus, I was in business.

Thanks for posting that. I contacted them about making decals for the CB77's. They said they're interested but won't be able to tackle any new projects until summer is over.
