Front sprocket
Front sprocketI have a 13 tooth front sprocket and it is geared way too short. Is it ok to use a 14 tooth which I can find on eBay? I want a little more oomph off the line. Is 14t still too short? Otherwise, does anyone have a standard 15 tooth for sale? I have a 63, if that matters. I see descriptions for "late shallow", which I take that the earlier ones are different.

www.eyhonda.com Eye, what are running on the rear? Standard is 15 front 30 rear. I run a 15 / 32 on my cafe', and it gives it a bit more pick-up, but higher revs at freeway speeds. The early bikes can use either sprocket, the late shallow only.

Hey Davo, I have a 30 rear so a 14 front is about the same ratio as yours. I think I'll get that 14. Thanks!

I have the stock 15/30, which gives great, all-round gearing -- comfortable cruising and sweet off-the-line ability. I'm X-ing my trans when I strip for bearings, etc; I like what I read from others' X-ing experiences, closing the huge chasm between 1st & 2nd.
I'm very happy with 1st & 4th ratios, so I've obtained new 530 sprockets of 16/32 counts (I was struggling to find a new 15) which will give identical ratios as 15/30. I've also opted for the DID O-ring 530 chain, for more longevity and less maintenance. I'd imagine 13/30 would have you rummaging for another gear past 50 or 60mph!
Thanks for the insight. I probably won't do much freeway cruising. So, I decided with a shorter gear. Since I just finished the bike, I'll likely just ride the rest of the season. I'll do the gear crossing this next winter since I didn't open the bottom yet. It shifts fine for now. But yes, it's in the plan. From what I understand, the wider gap from 1-2 will swap with the narrower 3-4 gap.
I'm still working out the low speed carb issues (which I think I figured out). So I haven't ridden past 40 yet. Did you consider a 520 conversion? Is it available? I think Sprocket Specialities can make anything. I will likely do this next as I still have the original chain.
